JIINAN vows to change the world for the better with eco-friendly practices

Climate crisis or no climate crisis – the debate is on. There are staunch and often well-read individuals on both sides. The conflict is as complex as any and has left many baffled about their stand. Yet, all believe that certain habits like managing waste are generally a good action for our planet and ourselves. One individual who wants to play an active part in the world’s future is Jessica Sinclair, whose new luxury clothing line, JIINAN, aims to reduce waste in all aspects of production. This is no mean feat, but Jessica is determined to leave her mark on the future without leaving another blemish on the health of the planet.

JIINAN, named after her grandmother, is Jessica’s second baby, so to speak. The first, called Flirty and Fit, was all about selling yoga mats that are environmentally friendly, non-animal tested, and biodegradable. That it went on to create a minor stir across Europe where they garnered 60% of their profit goes to show two things – one, Jessica knows how to develop environmentally-friendly products, and two, the world is ready for them. This is the experience and passion she plans to bring to JIINAN, which she describes as “an eco-conscious activewear luxury line. We aim to contribute to the cause of marine life by creating yoga outfits that use 70 plastic bottles hooked out of the ocean per outfit.”

However, that is just the beginning. Jessica is a perfectionist when it comes to work. And with JIINAN, she’s taking all precautions to leave the natural world undisturbed. For instance, she says, “I’m figuring out ways to avoid unnecessary shipping. Our company is R&D oriented, which means we are continually incorporating sustainable textile developments in our collections. Additionally, we aim to adopt methods that reduce the use of water and energy to decrease our environmental footprint.”

The packaging process is no different. Using a homemade hangtag, a recyclable product box, and the cassava bag in which buyers receive their order, JIINAN leaves no stone unturned to practice what it preaches – aesthetic, sustainable living.

Along with the production, Jessica is also keen on collaborating with like-minded people and companies like their Balinese manufacturers who “support environmental protection as much as us,” Jessica adds. It’s encouraging to see these efforts take shape, and brands like JIINAN are setting the precedent for others to follow.
