Justzai: The Chattanooga Rapper Finding Beauty in his Imperfections

After recently surpassing 400,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Chattanooga-based rapper Justzai is prepping his next release: a 10-track long album delving into the depths of the hip-hop genre. With a big upcoming year for Justzai, he isn’t taking time to slow down. He holds his upbringing close to his heart, and he doesn’t forget who helped him get to where he is today.

Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Isaiah Wallace still resides in his hometown with his six-person family. The connection Wallace has with his family has been a driving influence throughout his life. His career in music began when he entered rap battle competitions throughout Chattanooga. After realizing his potential, Wallace began taking his career as Justzai more serious and has been on the rise ever since. Inspired heavily by J. Cole, Wallace says his biggest challenge up to this point has been overcoming his overt perfectionism and finding peace in the imperfections of his work. “I always felt like everything I released was flawed, and I was never satisfied. I had to accept that there is beauty in imperfections,” Wallace states.

With years of work under his belt, the project Justzai has prepped to release next month is some of his deepest work yet. Here We Go Again delves into Wallace’s influences and pays homage to various aspects of the hip-hop genre. “[Here We Go Again] is a celebration of all the different styles of rap,” says Wallace. With the album coming out next month, check out what Justzai has released up to this point on his Spotify and follow him on his Instagram, here.
