Pranay Patel’s interesting take on photography’s similarity to life, reveals two important virtues of being a successful wildlife photographer

The field of photography is a learning experience for a lifetime. Besides the technicalities and innovations, there are various other learnings in this field. Not all photographers relate their profession to their life. However, photographer Pranay Patel has interesting learning about his journey where he explains how photography is pretty similar to life. Firstly, we tell you that Pranay is an emerging name in the field of wildlife photography who started his professional career in 2011 at the age of 13. It was his fascination and love for animals and wildlife which made him get on this journey and till date, the young guy has impressed many people with his beautiful clicks.
Based in Ahmedabad, Pranay has had got several opportunities to travel to different parts of the world for his work. For him, photography is very similar to life. In the moments of solitude, he often compares photography to life. Explaining about the same, he said, “Photography is all about being you. Though the subjects are the same for all, it is your approach, perspective and style that make the difference. I believe that it applies to our life goals too. When we zoom-in and zoom-out the camera to capture the shot, focus on the subject is of great importance. I think the moment you lose focus in life; the results are bound to get blurred. That’s how I see photography and life in a pretty similar context.”
Not just this, in a career of almost a decade, Pranay Patel has learnt two major aspects – timing and patience. “Wildlife photography has made me realize about the perfect timing and of course being patient. Unlike other photography where you have control over the subject’s movement and pose, wildlife photography requires the right timing to take that perfect photograph you want. The perfect shot which you have in your mind may take months or years as the object in wildlife photography is very dynamic and mobile”, he added. Moreover, Patel feels thankful that he has learnt to be patient through his work as having patience is an important aspect of life.
It is his desire and hunger to learn novel things which have made Pranay prosper as one of the youngest and talented wildlife photographers in India. His goal is to represent the country on a global level and show the rich heritage of nature and wildlife of India. With having done more than 100 safari visits till now, the photographer has documented some of the best works in his portfolio including ‘The Wonderful Wildlife of Gujarat’ in 2015 and ‘The Bears of Kamchatka’, Russia in 2019. One of his prominent works was during his wildlife visit in Africa in the Masai Mara region where he documented his portfolio in the memoir ‘The Wild Earth of Africa’, launched by business tycoon Mukesh Ambani in 2015. Through his creativity and talent, Pranay Patel is truly an emerging name among India’s best wildlife photographers.
