When others told her no, she took matters into her own hands…
The world of social media has become a place where anyone can find their niche, create meaningful content, market themselves, and occasionally even build a largely successful business while doing so. Olyria Roy is an internationally renowned model and singer who has done just that. The star currently boasts more than 2.6 million followers on Instagram alone, and many more across a variety of social media platforms such as OnlyFans, YouTube, and TikTok.
Olyria, born in 1987, is originally from St. Petersburg, Russia and comes 5th in line in a family of seven children. She was born at a difficult time in the Country’s history, as the Soviet Union had recently disintegrated and the new Russian Federation was still taking shape. This led to great political and social change that ultimately led to a period of civil unrest. Once the chaos settled, the new government made it possible for people with entrepreneurial ambitions to start their own businesses. In fact, Olyria’s mother was one of the first women in St. Petersburg to open her own business.
Olyria was inspired by her mother’s determination, and watching her thrive in the business world ignited her desire to one day follow in her footsteps. Olyria eventually went on to study at a military school and get her bachelor’s degree in international relations from North-West Academy of Public Administration. She is passionate about higher education and travel, which is why she then attended a student exchange program in France and eventually obtained two Master’s Degrees in Spain – one in international relations and one in political science.
Although Olyria was able to start a transnational career in business, she realized that her true passions lay elsewhere. After weighing her options, she made the difficult decision to leave a prestigious firm to pursue her dreams of becoming a model and singer. Being a curvier woman, she struggled to find modeling contracts that were accepting of her body type. Instead of letting this deter her from her goals, she leveraged the rising popularity of social media and used it to create her own platform and career, with which she now makes six-figures annually.
Despite her success, Olyria still faces the challenges of having an immense following, such as hurtful comments and nonstop criticism. “When you work on the Internet, you can often come across extremely aggressive and rude people,” she says. “Out in the real world, folks are far less likely to say you’re too fat, too busty, or too ugly – but the sad truth is that online, this type of harassment is commonplace.”
While this undoubtedly hurts at times, Olyria chooses to focus on the positive and uplifting comments from her fans and to interact with the people who choose to see the best in her. By doing that, she hopes to empower others, especially other curvy women, to believe in themselves and to be proud and confident of their own skin.
Olyria truly hasn’t let anything or anyone stop her on her path to achieving her modeling dreams, and she uses every hardship along the way as an opportunity to become better, stronger, and more experienced. “It is important to understand that failure is not the opposite of success, it is part of success,” says Olyria. “We need to understand that we will not always make the right decisions. Sometimes we fail and this is part of our journey towards our goals.”
