Where Did It All Begin?
Born in Tehran, the capital of Iran, Sam moved to Canada with his family at the age of 10. He found himself in unfamiliar waters, playing catch up with the other kids and having to learn the language quickly in order to fit in. Hoss used his love of music as a coping mechanism to deal with the huge changes happening in his life, and he worked hard to catch up to his peers while adapting to a new country and culture, which is perhaps why his work ethic is something to be admired. Creativity runs deep in his family roots, his father being a singer, his aunt a published poet and his cousin a well known international artist, it’s clear that pursuing a creative career is Hoss’ true calling.
The fact that Hoss’ first language isn’t English is something you would never guess when you hear him rap. His hold on the language has come a long way since those early days in the schoolyard, and his work ethic has developed with it. Since starting to make music professionally two years ago, Hoss has been working with some of the biggest names of the music scene in recent months, showing he’s a real force to be reckoned with.
Leading With Passion:
The uniqueness with Hoss stems from his dedication to making music which is made from passion, and comes from the soul. Instead of focusing on making money like so many others involved in the music scene today, it’s clear that Hoss is doing it out of love of music, separating him from the crowd and making his music stand out.
He identifies one of his biggest successes as being able to share his energy with everyone around the world, knowing that it’s helping, someone, somewhere, who is going through a dark time. With all the distress and uncertainty in the world, Hoss hopes his music can act as a refuge and inspire people.
Advice To Young Artists:
Hoss stands by the advice that no matter how hard things get, you have to know that they’ll always get better. The grind for nothing, and the key to rising high is to keep a positive outlook, knowing deep down that you have what it takes to make it in this industry and in life. Keep your positive outlook intact by steering clear from negative people, and surround yourself with people who build you up and give you energy rather than those who drain it. People will always criticize no matter how good you are or how successful you become, so it’s better to avoid distraction and hustle in silence.
