How Jonathan Gerow Turned Tragedy Into Success

To list Jonathan Gerow’s achievements makes for an impressive read. He is a creative young man who has used his talents in various capacities and remains ambitious to keep progressing even further.

From a young age, Jonathan showcased a passion for art and music, learning to play the guitar as a teen and also becoming an accomplished visual artist. By his twenties, he was a renowned tattoo artist. Around the same time, he received tragic news – his beloved mother had been diagnosed with cancer. He continued to work hard on his career, but spent every free moment with her whilst she received her treatment, which included a tough regime of chemotherapy.

In that context, Jonathan learned about Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP): ‘I looked at what others were doing in those days and thought the final result could be a whole lot more realistic’ Gerow comments, going on to say, ‘The chemo patients that I had seen were losing their hair and some of them were devastated. This had a massive impact on me. After my Mom passed I dreamt about how I could help them and my Mom. I think it was my way of grieving for my Mom and following my passion’.

With this in mind, Jonathan headed to Europe to learn more about SMP. In Birmingham, England, he worked with the technique’s inventors who trained him in the process: ‘The SMP professionals at the time were doing more of a shading and some treatments looked very artificial, so I took it on myself to turn up the heat and develop our solution into more of a serious art form that observers would never recognize as it would be so realistic and blend’.

He also spent time working in Florida, working with a number of companies for over 4 years (he continues to complete referrals for the brand HIS). Afterwards, he went on to found and establish www.GerowHairInk.com in 2016.

In the present day, Jonathan owns the busiest clinic in the world, which sees hundreds of people pass through its doors on a regular basis, including famous names such as Funk Master Flex, Erik Serman and Darron William. An important element of his clinic is that he offers a more personal service than others do, and on the subject of his clinic: ‘I want to play a role in helping as many folks as possible reap the benefits of this art form on our bodies. Whether it’s a patient with alopecia, pattern baldness or a chemotherapy patient who has lost his or her hair. I want to help them. I want to make my and my Mom proud!’
