James McLean: From Security Operations to International Business Leadership — A Journey Built on Resilience

James McLean’s journey has been shaped by discipline, adaptability and an ability to perform under pressure. From his early military experience and international security career to professional boxing and entrepreneurship, McLean has built a reputation around resilience, leadership and strategic thinking.

The brother of the late Jake McLean, James has worked to establish his own identity through business, service and personal determination, developing a career that extends beyond any single industry.

After a brief period of service in the British Army’s Parachute Regiment, one of the world’s most demanding military units, McLean says he accepted an opportunity to enter the private security sector. This transition marked the beginning of an international career spanning more than 18 years, working in hostile reconnaissance, protective services and security operations across multiple countries and maritime regions.

McLean says his experience in high-pressure environments helped develop skills that would later become central to his approach to business: strategic planning, risk management, decision-making under uncertainty and leading teams in challenging circumstances.

Throughout his security career, McLean has been involved in armed and unarmed security operations, executive protection, hostile-environment assessments and strategic advisory roles. He says his work required a strong focus on preparation, accountability and maintaining composure when the consequences of decisions were significant.

According to McLean, his professional training has included tactical movement, convoy operations, anti-ambush procedures, advanced weapons handling, trauma management, casualty evacuation, kidnap awareness and operational planning.

More recently, McLean says he assisted private efforts in the United Arab Emirates to help facilitate the safe return of UK residents through secured convoy operations during February and March 2026, drawing upon his operational experience and international security background.

Beyond security, McLean has channelled the same discipline and mindset into professional boxing and business. He describes boxing as an extension of the mental resilience developed throughout his career, a pursuit requiring preparation, focus and the ability to perform under pressure.

Now based in Dubai, one of the world’s fastest-growing business hubs, McLean has expanded into entrepreneurship, developing multiple business interests and applying the principles gained throughout his career to commercial environments.

His approach to business is built around leadership, problem-solving and calculated decision-making. McLean says his background has taught him the importance of understanding risk, building strong teams and remaining adaptable in rapidly changing environments.

His journey has also included significant personal challenges. McLean was accused of a serious offence, allegations he denied throughout. Following legal proceedings, he was acquitted and cleared of wrongdoing.

McLean is the brother of the late Jake McLean, a British businessman and television personality whose life and untimely death attracted widespread media attention. He has described that period as one of the most challenging experiences of his life, saying it tested his resilience, reputation and ability to remain focused under intense pressure.

Following the death of his brother, Jake McLean, McLean says he worked alongside security professionals and relevant authorities to gather, preserve and analyse evidence relating to the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death. According to McLean, those efforts were focused on helping establish a factual timeline of events and ensuring relevant information was available to the appropriate authorities.

Away from business, McLean credits his continued personal development to the guidance of coach Lee Skinner. Since beginning online coaching, he says the programme has taken his discipline, focus and mindset to another level. McLean believes the coaching has helped him develop not only physically but mentally, strengthening his resilience, sharpening his outlook and enabling him to approach both business and life with greater clarity, composure and purpose.

He says this renewed focus has played a significant role in his entrepreneurial journey, allowing him to face challenges with a calm and disciplined mindset while continually striving for higher standards of performance, leadership and personal growth.

Today, McLean continues to focus on entrepreneurship, business development and security consultancy, combining the lessons learned from military service, international operations and professional sport.

Those who have worked alongside McLean describe him as highly disciplined, resilient and driven. Some have referred to him as a “one-man army” a reflection of the breadth of his experience across security, sport and business and describe him as someone who remains calm under pressure and is not easily underestimated.

From the Parachute Regiment to international security operations, the boxing ring and the boardrooms of Dubai, James McLean’s story is one of transformation using experience gained in demanding environments to build a future centred on leadership, enterprise, resilience and continuous self-improvement.
